Meat Processing/Slaughter House in DFW area...

Growing up in the country, my father use to go to a local beef slaughterhouse and purchase a side of beef and put it in the deep freezer. While I wouldn't say we were poor, we also ate like Kings and I really enjoyed cooking with my family.

So, twenty years later I want to do the same thing. I am going this weekend to purchase a deep freezer, but I don't know where to start on getting the beef. I ask one of the local butchers at the grocery store and he acted like I was asking the dumbest question ever. Granted this was a grocery store in the heart of Dallas, but I figured it was a place to start.

Anyone know of a place to get something like this in the DFW area? Anyone purchase meat like that? Got any tips for someone starting out?

Where's the Beef?

There is a place on Lancaster as you go into Fort Worth from Arlington. It is also called Hwy. 80 Don't know the name, but I had another butcher recommend them once. They have been there forever.

I think there is still one in Trenton just north east of McKinney. You bring it in on the hoof and they process it. Don't know if they have any to sell.

Country Meat Market off Lancaster sort of on the Fort Worth/Arlington border near 820 east. Great meat. They also have the deals where you buy so much meat and you receive a "free" deep freezer. I buy a lot of ground beef/steaks/pork chops from there during the summer.

It's still there. I am not crazy about the place. I think he does switches. Take a nice heifer and you get back tough old bull.

Let me know if you need a cow. I don't have any to sell but I can connect you with neighbors. 40 miles north of McKinney.

Fischer's Meat Market in Muenster, Texas. They also have a small grocery store, and sell some of the best damn hot links I'm ever had, they are a German grocery store.

There is also a place in Durant, Oklahoma, can't remember the name of it, but if you need it I can get if for you just let me know.
