 Who's built a tube gun?

Has anybody here had one built? I'm looking at both the Elisio ( www.competitionshootingstuff.com) and MAK ( www.tubegun.net) kits based on a rem700 repeater. I'd like to know any first hand experience out there. Are there others? Pro's/Con's of each? Or of the platform in general?

I'm not a rich guy, but this seems as practical for me as anything for a "general purpose" medium or long range rifle. BTW, I dont expect to win any particular match –– I only compete against myself. Can't really afford more than 1 build in any given 5-year period, so I don't want to make a mistake here if I can avoid it based on your advice.

For the hardcore folks, I'm going to punch paper with this, both XTC and maybe Palma/NRA Long Range/F-TR (so it'll be a 308). Maybe a tactical match here and there. Matches are my best opportunity to get beyond 200 yds. Just assuming you folks have some experience here if for practice if nothing else.

Thanks in advance for helping out a noob,
-Slice

I am intrigued.

I started a thread on tubeguns last week, but it went nowhere.

I have an Eliseo tube gun and plan to buy the R-5 sometime soon. I'd recommend them very highly. I know several (many) people who have the R-5 and also the single shot, centerfire model. They all love them. They are replacing all the wooden stocks on the firing line.

My recommendation - a solid BUY!

Here's my rimfire tube gun, Eliseo's model AN-1:

What sights do you have on that thing? Does it require the "high boy" front sights?

Thanks,

The MAK uses AI mags. I think the Elisio uses a custom mag.

So what's the average cost to build one of these?

Dana,

Will do. Talked to Kevin yesterday and he answered a lot of my questions. Might meet up w/ him at the Indy show this weekend or at Atturbury soon. Just want to check these things out in person before I jump in.

03,

No, that's not exactly it. What I would like to build is this stock wrapped around a .308 rem700 repeater (5 or 10 rd AI mags). It kind of looks like an AR, but really it's a sleeved remmy w/ a "float tube". Their kit takes AR furniture so the feel is similar if you're used to an AR in XTC. Basically you can trick out a bolt gun like an AR space gun.

Does that help?

Thanks,

Basically, a Remington 700 reciever installed in an aluminum "tube".

The "tube" takes the place of a conventional rifle stock, and allows use of AR buttstocks and pistol grips.

I google imaged "tube gun".

That's a 6 X 47 Lapua with a 28" barrel, and a dog.
