Local large discount store had what appeared to be drums (Yellow steel drum approx 20" dia and 20" tall ). Beat up labels that appeared to indicate Lake city XM855 and a seperate sticker listing some 12,000 rounds (odd number I don't remember) They had 5 or 6 drums. This is a joint that has pallets of ammo stacked all over the place. I tried to rock one of these thinking they might be empty but they were full.

Place was busy as hell and I couldn't wait around to ask any questions.

Any one ever see ammo packed like this?

My eyes were bugging out thinking about it

Like a keg-o-ammo

Curious what the price was.

Natchez had them, but it was about $0.32-$0.36/rd before shipping (which would be insane I presume)
Not much a bulk discount

I remember that. Someone called out Natchez about the price and Natchez claimed they couldn't sell it any cheaper; they weren't getting any big discount from their distributors for the big barrels.

12,000 rounds... I'd pay maybe up to $0.27/rd delivered to my door. It just doesn't represent that good of a deal to me when I'm perfectly happy shooting WPA for $0.22/round even after the recent price increases.

Considering you can get IMI 855 delivered to your doorstep in a 1200 round case for $0.33 cents a round, what would make this appealing other than a big retarted looking drum?

Not anymore... Wideners is been out of stock on IMI m855 for a couple weeks now.

That said, like you implied... I would hope on 12k round drum you could do better than case qty prices of LC or similar.

im gonna laugh like hell when all these places hoarding ammo for the panic buy get left out in the cold and we get to reap the benefits when they end up having to sell off the shit at a loss.

IIRC it was right at $3k a drum when they were available. Shipping was killer tho. . . .
