it is my understanding that any lower should be compatible with the DPMS 7.62x39 barrel/ receiver setup. Is this, in fact, true? if so, the next step would be obtaining knowledge of the whereabouts of a well priced, IN STOCK, upper barrel assembly or seperates. I would also need to know all hardware involved in mounting a barrel and the Location of a good rail system. Can anyone help a newb with high aspirations

Yes, the DPMS 7.62x39 upper is compatible with any AR-15 lower. The only other thing you need is a 7.62 magazine. Since you are in VA, check out the new C Products high capacity 7.62x39 magazine C Products High Cap 7.62 mag

Info on tools and instructions for mounting a barrel and free float tube/rail can be found here

Check the site sponsors for parts or complete uppers. Also check midwayusa.com

now all the trouble lies with finding one in stock. Do you think its pretty likely i could find a reasonably pricedupper assembly or well priced seperates for the 7.62x39 at a good sized gun show

Check Del-Ton for the upper. They built mine and I sure like it. Have them put an extra stength hammer spring in when they build it, or ordr one from Wolff springs. Helps with the hard primers.

While I have a Colt upper, my AR-7.62x39 came with a DPMS lower. When I had the chance, I was able to match the upper with a Colt lower and could see that there was a better alignment between the two.

When time & money allow, I’ll obtain a good Colt lower without the block and swap it all out and have a total Colt AR-15…

thanks for those listings. No that ive got the local of the barrel bolt, what else do i need? do i need a 7.62x39 specific bolt carrier or 7.62x39 specific reciever, or is this it? could it be that all you need is a different barrel and bolt and i am able to save $ on the rest?

That's all you need, the rest of the upper receiver parts are off the shelf .223/5.56.

sweet! But will i need to do anything special for assembly? Headspacing, ETC.?
i have also read mention of upgrading a few items in the bolt/ carrier for wolf, or milsurp ammo. whats the take on this?

Put it together, just like any other.

You'd be assembling DPMS to DPMS, headspace shouldn't be an issue. If you're nervous $30 for PTG headspace gauges are probably worth your peace of mind.

If you're having problems with the Wolf, there are instructions floating around in more than one thread in here on how to mod the firing pin, bolt or both to resolve the issue.

How is the build quality of Del-ton? I see various posts on other forums that show the various features of certain manufacturers. Del-ton isn't mentioned too often.

Comments?

I bought a Del-ton upper and the build quality seems first rate to me, it seems to be as good as my Stag. I shopped around a little and they were one of the cheapest suppliers of fully assembled uppers. Their website was easy to use and delivery was fast. I took my new build out shooting 2 weeks ago and shot about 300 rounds through it and it shot great. I don't have anything negative to say about my experience with Del-ton.

My brother in law liked my new rifle so much he bought a Del-ton upper too and he has had a good experience as well. You are more than safe ordering from Del-ton, for the price I would say they cant be beat.

I may not know about the qualiy of the delton upper for 10-12 weeks as delton has the shortest backorder i could find for the 7.62x39. The customer service was timely as i place the order sunday at 11pm and recieved an email at 12:44 on monday to let me know of the backorder and to ask if i want a partial ship, THe site is very good, which you cant say about alot of online gun stores

When I'm shooting off the bench I use GI 20 round mags, loading 5 rounds, works great. I have some frankenmags but they are way too long for benchwork.

yup, i was able to get 4-5 rounds in the 30 rd mags, then it would bulge and not fit in the receiver...

check the other threads, i already have. colt has reliable 10 rounders, a company called frankenmags melds a colt 10 rounder w/ a ak mag to achieve 15 to 40 round capabilities. CProducts has recently released a 30 round mag made just for 7.62x39 ARs/mini 14's. Its apparently been in testing for years and is the hot snot because they retail for $30-$40 and are backordered for over 4 weeks. The frankenmags are in this price range, and are hard to come by as well. I just hopped on the backorder list w/ 44mag.com for 5 of em. good luck!

cproducts mags are 26.99 unless you buy ten of them and then they are cheaper. you also get free shipping on anything above 200.00. they have tested these well. there is no need to go to the frankenmags. RG ps. my 500th post.

congratulations rundm. youve either posted alot of useful information, or your a board troll, either way, 500 is a commendable number. Id also like to follow up by saying that the polymer 10 rounders seem to be the most economical way to go. The 30 rounders are going to stick out of mag well significantly and will certainly hinder bench fire. I personally am attaining the 30 rounders because i live in Richmond, VA and may be dealing with a riot or disaster conditions someday and feel the ned to be prepared.
