sorry for the noob question, i got brand new bushmaster superlight (carbon 15) with red dot, try to disassemble it for the first time, clear the gun, bolt closed, hammer down, push the pin above the grip out as far as i can go, even hammer it a few times, the gun won't pivot open... what am i missing here?

thanks

Are you positive the bolt is all the way forward? Thats about the only thing that would keep the gun from opening up.

Turn the rifle upside down with the forend in your left hand and lightly tap the top side (now on the bottom) side of the butt plate onto a padded but firm surface. You likely have a tight fitting upper and lower and it will take a nudge to get it open. My Tactical Machine LR-308 lower is like that with my DPMS upper and it takes a pretty good lick to open up but it gets easier all the time and so will yours. But you must be sure the take down pin is all the way out or you will never get it to come open.

Be certain the takedown pin is completely pushed through...

maybe it's a tight fit. push both pin's out and smack the barrel towards the muzzle!

Normal....you have to remove b.tube/stock before dissasembly of upper/lower on the carbon15

I wish I was...unless they changed them this has always been the case with the rifle and pistol versions

Now that you are sure the gun is unloaded you may proceed in the disassembly.

• Send the Bolt "Home" by releasing the Bolt Catch.
• Remove the butt stock on the rifle by rotating the takedown lever 160° counter - clockwise. Grasp the rifle and stock in opposite hands and firmly pull stock directly rearward. Do not attempt to fire the rifle with stock removed. To do so is unsafe and could cause bodily injury.

Next remove the buffer spring and buffer assembly by unscrewing the recoil tube on both the rifle and pistol. Use caution the buffer spring will be under pressure.

• By using a small diameter drive tool, push both takedown pins from left to right until they stop. • Separate the receivers by holding the grip with one hand and pulling the upper receiver up and forward. Note: The charging handle must be in the closed position; there will be some resistance due to the close tolerance fit between the upper and lower receivers. • You may now pull back on the charging

ok i finally got it to open
what i did is push both pins out, the upper/lower kinda split open a bit on the pivot pin side, so i pull the two apart along the direction of the rifle body, not pivot it open which was impossible to do

thanks all who replied, appreciate it

Download the manual for the rifle and read how it's done. There's a plastic lever on the left side of the lower that needs to be rotated and then the stock is removed after which you can unscrew the recoil tube and remove the spring and buffer. THEN you can remove the rear pin and pivot the upper and lower normally. Here's one version of the Carbon 15 manual.

• Detach the muzzle compensator

actually my bushmaster has a different manual, it's exactly what i got as hard copy with the gun, and the take down procedure is the same as other ar-15 without removing stock, just push take down pin and it should open (page 22, btw i am not that bad posting question before i read the manual a few times first )

Just leave it to Bushmaster to teach an old dog a new trick original design has worked well for 50 years why screw with it
